MeetInk vs Google Meet "Take notes for me": local notes for every call

Gemini's "Take notes for me" writes a Google Doc for Meet calls in your Workspace. MeetInk records any call on your Mac and keeps the transcript and notes on your machine.

If your company runs on Google Workspace, "Take notes for me" is the easiest meeting notes you will ever set up: turn it on, and a Google Doc appears in Drive after the call. MeetInk solves the same problem from your Mac instead of from the meeting. Here is how they differ, and when Google's option is the better pick.

How "Take notes for me" works

"Take notes for me" is Gemini in Google Meet. Gemini captures the conversation and writes notes — a summary, decisions and suggested next steps — into a Google Doc.

  • It needs an eligible plan. Google lists Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, some Education editions, and Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. The meeting organiser needs an eligible edition, and a Workspace admin controls whether the feature is available.
  • It's for Google Meet. You turn it on from Google Calendar, the Meet green room or during the call. Google also documents in-person note taking on Android.
  • Notes go to the organiser's Drive. The Doc is saved in the organiser's "Google Meet" folder, and the organiser gets an email with the link. Depending on the organiser's settings, notes can be shared with all invited guests, only guests in the organisation, or only hosts and co-hosts.
  • Everyone knows. Meet tells participants that notes are being taken, and admins can require consent, turn it on automatically for some meetings, and set retention policies.
  • Languages. Google lists English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, one language per meeting.

On privacy, Google's Workspace privacy hub says Gemini does not use your prompts, Workspace content or responses to train generative AI models outside your domain without permission. Your notes live in Google Drive, under your organisation's Workspace policies.

How MeetInk works

MeetInk is a Mac app that doesn't depend on which meeting platform you're in.

  • Any call app, no bot. It records your microphone and only the meeting app's audio — Google Meet in your browser, Zoom, Teams, Slack huddles, Webex or FaceTime. Music and other tabs are left out, and echo cancellation lets you use speakers.
  • No organiser or admin needed. You don't need to host the meeting or have a particular Workspace edition, so it works in an external partner's Meet just as well as in your own.
  • Transcribed on your Mac. Speech recognition and speaker separation run on the Mac's Neural Engine. Audio is never uploaded.
  • Your library stays on your Mac. No account is needed; Google sign-in is optional.
  • You choose who writes the notes. Google Gemini (recommended, with a free tier), Anthropic Claude or OpenAI with your own key, sent directly from your Mac — transcript text only. Or keep everything offline with a local model through Ollama. Note that on Gemini's free API tier Google may use prompts to improve its models; the paid tier doesn't.

No bot joins and Meet shows nothing, so please tell people you're taking notes — see recording consent.

Notes shaped by the kind of meeting

MeetInk detects 16 meeting types and writes notes to match: standups (done / doing / blockers per person), sprint planning, roadmap reviews, design reviews as decision records, incident reviews, client calls, sales discovery with a MEDDIC scorecard, sales demos, interviews, 1:1s, knowledge transfers, team updates and more. Notes appear as they're written.

Every line links to the moment it was said. Speakers are named by the AI from the calendar invite and the conversation — suggestions you confirm — and you can rename anyone.

Getting work out of meetings

  • Action items with owners and due dates from every call, in one list. Any item opens as a prefilled Linear issue.
  • Ask AI about one meeting (answers cite [mm:ss] moments), a folder, or all your meetings. Search runs on your Mac, by meaning and keywords.
  • Your AI tools can read your meetings through a one-click, read-only local connector for Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor.
  • "Write…" recipes for a follow-up email, a Slack update, a decision record or a status recap.
  • Integrations you set up: Markdown to a folder (including Google Drive), a Slack webhook, Zapier, Make or n8n webhooks, and Gmail or Mail follow-ups.

Why choose MeetInk instead

Choose MeetInk if your calls aren't all in Google Meet, if you often join meetings you don't organise, or if you'd rather your transcripts stay on your own Mac than in a shared Drive. It's one library for every call, with notes built for engineering, sales and client work. Read more on private meeting notes on a Mac and how MeetInk handles your data.

The bottom line

"Take notes for me" is the obvious choice for a Google Workspace team meeting in Meet. MeetInk is for people whose meetings span many apps and organisers, and who want the audio, transcript and notes kept on their Mac, at a price paid once.
