MeetInk

MeetInk vs Granola: a private alternative that keeps your notes on your Mac

Both skip the meeting bot. The difference is where your transcript and notes live, what you pay, and who can read them.

Granola made "no bot in the call" feel normal, and that deserves credit. If you like the way it works but want your meetings to stay on your own machine, this page explains where MeetInk is similar, where it is different, and where Granola is simply the better pick.

What Granola and MeetInk agree on

Both apps start from the same idea: a meeting recorder should not join the meeting.

  • No bot. Neither app dials a "notetaker" into Zoom, Meet or Teams. Nobody on the call sees an extra participant.
  • Your notes plus AI notes. You can type while you listen, and the app turns the conversation into a structured summary afterwards.
  • Works with the call apps you already use. Both capture the audio your Mac plays and your microphone, so the meeting platform does not matter.

If those three things are what you care about, either app will feel familiar within a day.

The real difference: where your meetings live

Granola is a cloud product. You sign in with an account, and your notes are synced to Granola's servers so they are available across devices and can be shared with your team. How transcription is processed depends on Granola's current setup — check their site for current details.

MeetInk is built the other way round:

  • Transcription runs on your Mac. Speech recognition and speaker separation happen locally. Audio is never uploaded.
  • Your library is a folder on your Mac. Recordings, transcripts and notes are stored locally. There is no account to create; Google sign-in is optional and only used for your license.
  • You choose who writes the notes. A local model through Ollama keeps everything offline. Google Gemini's free tier (recommended), Claude or OpenAI work with your own API key, and only the transcript text is sent — never audio.

That trade-off is the whole story. Syncing to a cloud makes sharing effortless. Keeping everything local means client calls, pricing talks and one-on-ones never sit on anyone else's server.

Notes shaped by the kind of meeting

MeetInk detects the type of meeting and writes notes to match. There are 16 types, including standups (done / doing / blockers per person), sprint planning, design reviews written up like decision records, incident reviews, client calls (requirements, scope changes, commitments), sales discovery with a MEDDIC scorecard, sales demos, interviews and 1:1s.

Every line in the notes links to the moment it was said, so you can check a claim in a few seconds instead of re-listening.

Work that comes out of the meeting

A few things are built specifically for engineering, sales and client-services teams:

  • One Action items list collects the follow-ups from every call. One click turns an item into a prefilled Linear issue.
  • Ask AI about one meeting, a folder or everything. Questions like "what did we promise Acme about the API?" get an answer that cites the meetings it came from. About a single meeting, answers point to the exact moment, and you can play it.
  • Speakers get names. The AI names speakers from the calendar invite and the conversation, and asks you to confirm the ones it isn't sure of.
  • Your AI tools can read your meetings. A local connector works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. It reads your notes on your Mac; the app itself uploads nothing.

Pricing: subscription vs one-time

Granola is sold as a subscription, with plans for individuals and teams — check their site for current pricing.

MeetInk is a one-time purchase: $29 with 12 months of updates included. The version you have keeps working after that. You can try every feature free for 14 days, and after the trial it stays free for 5 meetings a month.

Where Granola is the better choice

Be honest with yourself about how you work:

  • Your team shares notes all day. Granola's shared, synced workspace is built for that. MeetInk can post to Slack or save to a shared Drive folder, but it is not a team workspace.
  • You need it beyond the Mac. If you want the same notes on a phone or a non-Mac computer, a cloud product is the simpler path.
  • You want zero setup for the AI. Granola includes its AI. With MeetInk you pick a local model or bring an API key (Gemini's is free) — a one-time step, but a step.
  • You take calls in several languages. MeetInk transcribes English only today.

Why MeetInk is the private Granola alternative

If your calls include client data, contract terms, hiring decisions or anything you would not forward to a vendor, the location of your notes matters more than any feature. MeetInk keeps the audio, the transcript and the notes on your Mac, needs no account, and sends your meetings nowhere unless you choose a cloud notes engine or set up an integration yourself. The app's only other traffic is license checks and anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off.

The bottom line

Granola is a polished, cloud-first notetaker that is great for teams who share everything. MeetInk is for people who want the same no-bot experience with their meetings kept on their own machine, notes shaped for engineering, sales and client work, and a price you pay once.

Frequently asked questions

Does MeetInk upload my audio?

No. Recording and transcription happen on your Mac. If you choose Gemini, Claude or OpenAI to write notes, only the transcript text is sent, using your own key.

Can I move my notes out later?

Yes. Every meeting can be copied or exported as Markdown, and you can have every finished meeting saved automatically to a folder such as Google Drive, iCloud Drive, Dropbox or an Obsidian vault.

Does anyone on the call see that I am recording?

No bot joins, so nothing appears in the meeting. Please tell people you are taking notes wherever the law or your company requires it.
