Fixing permissions: meeting audio, microphone, notifications and calendars
What to do when MeetInk can't hear the other side, can't use the microphone, doesn't show notifications or can't read your calendars.

macOS asks before any app can record audio or read your calendar. If something was denied, or the prompt was missed, here's how to fix it. When you open System Settings, look for MeetInk in the list.
The other side isn't recorded (meeting audio test fails)
Signs: the Meeting audio test in setup says it couldn't hear the test sound, the Others meter stays flat during a call, or the transcript only shows You.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Scroll to System Audio Recording Only and turn on MeetInk. If it's not listed, click + and add it from Applications.
- Quit and reopen MeetInk, then run the test again (in setup: Test again; later: Settings → Recording → Permissions → System audio settings…).
Still quiet? Check two more things:
- Where the other side is recorded from. In Settings → Recording → Record the other side from, Meeting apps only records Zoom, Teams, Slack, FaceTime and browsers. If you use a different calling app, choose Whole Mac.
- Is anyone actually talking? If you're testing alone with nothing playing, the Others meter stays flat. That's expected.
Your side isn't recorded (microphone)
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
- Turn on MeetInk.
- Quit and reopen MeetInk.
In the app, Settings → Recording → Permissions → Microphone settings… opens that page directly. Also check that the right input is selected in System Settings → Sound → Input.
The "Take notes" notification doesn't appear
When a calendar meeting starts, or a call app starts using your microphone, MeetInk shows a notification with a Take notes button. It's titled with the meeting's name, or with the call ("Meeting in Google Chrome", "Slack huddle"). If you never see it:
- Open System Settings → Notifications → MeetInk.
- Turn on Allow notifications.
- Set the alert style to Alerts (instead of Banners) so it stays on screen and the button shows without hovering.
- Check that Focus / Do Not Disturb isn't hiding it.
- In MeetInk, check Settings → Calendars: Offer to record when a meeting is about to start and Detect meetings from microphone activity should be on. Send test notification there shows whether notifications get through.
You can always start a recording yourself with ⌘R or New recording, or with Record next to a meeting on the Today page.
Calendars don't show up
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.
- Allow full access for MeetInk.
- Back in MeetInk, open Settings → Calendars and click Refresh.
If only some accounts appear, add the missing ones in System Settings → Internet Accounts. See Calendars.
